Every now and then you will hear
I don’t have enough time !!
and I wonder, Time is never limited by anything. It just comes and goes, it is the most infinite thing and is absolutely free, then how come anyone can complain about not having time.
It is never too early … nor too late to do anything at any given time !!
Denial is the most predictable and common of all the human responses !!
Choices are difficult to make, atleast sometimes !! Some choices are easier to make, some are not. Most of the time, I was afraid to choose. I still get confused, but I am no longer afraid. Few days back, I was confused over which course to take, but I got over with it.
Everybody has mechanism to make a choice, to choose between options. I was not sure I had one, but I guess I developed it over in Japan, when I was trying to buy my laptop. I flabbergasted by so many options, I didn’t know which one to buy. I delayed the decision to buy it by over 3 months, where the general time to purchase would be around 2-4 weeks. So you can imagine the state of confusion within me.
But there I developed, something what I call the decision tree for myself. Listing down, in priority, what features I wanted. And I would branch of on to 2 different features which are of equal value to me. I haven’t done it over a paper or on a software. I did it all in my mind. And it has helped me in more than one place.
Many people complain that I confuse them instead of guiding them, when they come and ask which camera, laptop, mp3 player or any other gadget they want to buy. I only tell them a comparison on whatever options they are considering, as per my best knowledge. But I don’t make a choice for them. Because at the end, it they themselves who know whats best they need. I just compare between the needs and the features. Sometimes I get biased over a particular company, simply because I know the products.
Each one has a different perception to look at the same thing. People will tell Apple’s iPod is more easy and intuitive to use whereas I feel the exact apposite. I my Sony Walkman (Atrac player) is better in terms of use and handling. But then, at the end, as I have already said.
The final user is the one who has to get convinced !!
Stars are good to see,
at night from the distance.
But as you move close to them,
you feel the heat and cannot eye them straight.
They are like everything else in life. Things look amazing and beautiful from the distance. But as we take a closer look, we discover the flaws. Be it the person sitting next to you or your favorite superstar or sports person or be it your role model. Its the same world over.
It is more important, to realize, that the flaws need not be covered or improved upon. Rather, they can’t be !! But it should be us, who should learn to live with them. To take people as they are and appreciate them in that way !!
I had renewed respect for the people who are in the medical profession i.e. the nurses and the doctors. The renewed part is not because they save people’s lives (well they do, and I do respect them for that) but for the fact they have to respond to situations which are really very tough. They have to make decisions, and that too good decisions, off hand !! Analyzing the pros and cons and then proceeding with something.
We for one, have numerous meetings and discussions before we proceed on to something. Sometimes even for trivial issues. And for them, they are alone and don’t have much time to respond. I agree, they have some set procedures, but accidents don’t happen in procedure. Able to maintain the calm and presence of mind, in order to carry out some tough procedures, to be able to take decisions, is not an easy job.
Over the numerous hours I spent in the emergency ward of the hospital (Don’t worry !! Nothing had happened to me, I was just accompanying someone !!), I witnessed how these people have to work. On the run with their wits about them. The dedication to save peoples lives with anything much in return. Infact many at times they face the scorn of the people who somehow judge them that they are not doing there job up to the mark.
I feel, in general, we ought to offer the Doctors and Nurses more respect than currently we show them in the hospitals. Especially the Nurses, both sisters and brothers, who work attentively to their humanly possible capabilities, to take care of the patient and at the same time keep the doctor updated. And yes, don’t forget the paper work for them, they have tons of it to take care !!
