Justice in the Democratic World!!

This post, again, is part of the series which highlights the flaws in ideologies of the so-called leaders of my country, and my anguish and frustration which is creeping inside me, looking where my beloved country is headed to!!

I read in a news article that a prominent politician and leader has criticized a lawyer for defending the accussed terrorist from the very recent terror attack in my country.

I wonder what the leader is trying to suggest. Whether we should not allow justice to take its natural course, using the right means? or whether we should refuse government orders handed out to us, just because we think they are wrong?

If the leader, is so convinced that the accussed terrorist is the terrorist, why does he feel afraid if he is afforded a fair trial? Does he not have faith in the judicial system of the country??

And how does he feel it is alright, when the accused and convicted walk the streets unharmed and unquestioned??

I have always loved my country, with great respect and pride. But my love, respect and pride for my fellow countrymen has been on a continuous decline off late !!

  1. A classic example of any kind of publicity is good publicity. The ‘smart’ politician chose to comment on this case because he knew the media is going to lap it up… it might attract criticism but how does that matter till the time he is able to reach out to the masses- that was his purpose in first place. Only our foolish, short sighted media was not able to read thru.. After all even they want masala khabar, and that’s what they got from him. Yellow Journalism is another name for it…. (Different subject, hence will not expand on it)

My point- India is country will a billion and more people out of which a few lacs (which makes it a micro% of our population) are corrupt, bad elements of the society includes everyone from politicians to criminals etc etc… on the other hand we have good law abiding citizens who do their bit to bring about a change in the society. Now my question is why we always have to highlight, criticize debate, discuss, and write about what is not right. Maybe because we assume the ones who are doing good, don’t care if their efforts go unnoticed and lauded or not- they will yet continue what they aimed for.

I have read some of your posts and they all make good- really interesting reads. But I think I would have enjoyed reading it more if the post would have focused on this lawyer who took up this challenging case- knowing life after this is not going to be exactly easy and the challenges she is going to face or a post talking about people who took on those people who were rejected by the others (I know this would take some research work) But just a thought!

Every time I would not like to be told the who’s & why’s of a wrong with my country – I would also like to feel happy about how our countrymen are still right and trying to turn around the wrong!

I know this is your space, your blog where you write, express what you feel.. But just my comments as a reader!

  2. I didn’t write about the lawyer, because she is doing her job. I don’t think we should praise people for doing there job. Yes, a pat on the back helps, but that should be after the job..right??

Any kind of publicity is good publicity?? Well, I would want to disagree. Being a leader, one should be careful in what kind of publicity he gets. For he should give the right image of him as a leader. But alas, my fellow countrymen follow someone blindly, without differentiating whether it is good or bad!!

And no, bad and corrupt do not form a micro of our population. I think the micro is people who are not corrupt. How many of us got a driving license following the right process, or get a job done without bribing anyone. We all avoid the hardships if the things can be done in a easier way by just paying something on top. Every one is ready to pay the Pandu on the next signal with a 50 note, if he has broken the law, and then we curse the same Pandu calling him corrupt!!

Somehow, everyone of us feels, it is OK to lie if not caught, if it is done in a good interest. BUT no, it reflects on one’s honesty. Majority of us are not Honest, we know it and that’s why we don’t trust each other.

    (Refer earlier post : http://www.kidunltd.com/scribbles/2009/03/05/trust/ )

  3. You don’t understand what i try to say- neither in this post nor in the previous one

let me try and sum it up- i am not saying what you wrote is wrong, I agree to each point presented by you. What I am trying to say is—OUR COUNTRY, OUR SOCIETY, OUR PEOPLE are not just about negatives and faults… there are some good things to talk about too… If you can be vocal about the wrong doings, and what is not right and what people do and what they should not be doing etc etc… Can you attempt a piece on what is right, who are they, the good things about US.. I am sure the place where we live is not all that bad that we can’t find a single thing to praise and write about…

You picked one point about this politician and wrote an entire post around him… same way pick one good deed, that you think is worth mentioning and write about it… Everyone needs a feel good factor in life! it is not about criticism all the time…

PS: about the politician and his publicity stunt- if did not want cheap and free publicity in first place he would not have said what he did- the statement itself was meaningless and the sad part is media is only promoting and adopting yellow journalism these days.. Everyday a new rakhi sawant episode, or a politician taking bribe, making faltoo statements, irresponsible behavior of our politicians in the parliament etc are run and rerun and run again or television- after all it is no joke to run a 24X7 new channel and they also like to highlight only the bad and ugly…

  4. @pallavi: Why do you need a feel good factor? Just to satisfy our egoes that we are doing good?? But are we?? I don’t highlight good points of the western world, but yes, I do highlight the difference between the mentality.

Everything is in the mind, it is the mentality of the population which I am concerned with, and frankly speaking, I don’t find anything good about it.

  5. Pallavi & I discussed your perspective… Since we share a close space (pluses of sitting next to each other) and filling in for each other also at times… hence she responded on my behalf, but now that I am back here is my take…

I feel criticizing is one thing, discussing and debating is another, running down people and their behaviour third… If we can’t find a single thing in the other person worth appreciating or forget about people if we can’t express positives about the good things in life and go on and on and on about what is not right.. According to me that is totally uncool and wrong…! Totally my take- after all you say I am born a free world and can express my thoughts and opinion- is not wrong as well???

Why write about the good things in people and society at large for the sake of doing it, do it because I am sure you have more than one thing in life that makes it totally beautiful, nice and worth looking forward to something new…

Just like we look forward to coming back to your blog to read something new each time…

I know some one who admires the way you write and present your thoughts… But I think I am yet to read one out and out happy, positive post on your blog…

Is it so difficult to write about good and happy things or am I wrong … think about it! I am thinking about it too, have not got an answer as yet…..

  6. Normally one writes about what one thinks. Normally one thinks about problems at hand, the happiness just passes through when one enjoys…but is there something to ponder about??

One writes about an experience, sometimes we experience pure bliss, one can write about that…!!

I write, what I feel stimulates my mind, if something which is one happier note and simulates the mind, then I am sure I would write about it….!!

  7. In hope that something really good would happen to your sometime soon- though I am sure everyday we get 100 reasons to be happy n smile- but each to it’s own I guess!!! and then you will write about it and we happily will post our comments on it….

Nothing to do with the post… but Pallavi was telling me you were curious to know about me??? What?

  8. u have written a lot about democracy in india. i want to ask just 1 think to u that do u have ur voter id card and r u goin to vote this time in election. if yes then good otherwise u dont have writes to sit in room with laptop and comments on democracy. on india and on whole system. just enjoying the election day as holiday and watching movie and sleeping. dont take it personally . i am pointing it to all those u think/consider them as rational, educated and think tank of india. giving only tax is not enought. play full responsibility as good citizen. people rush to make driving liecense to save fines but they think to make voter card to vote and select best candidate available. thses politicians also know that middle class and people like us dont vote because we want to avoid long queue on polling station. actually we want avoid long queue everywhere that why now days online payment/systems ar eon boom. people who are living in village etc who go to vote can easily be biased on many factors which results to inefficient government.
first go this time and do vote, bring ur friends also to vote. make government to work efficiently for growth of all then write blog.

  9. @ anurag… Great Comment!

  10. @anurag… I do have a voter’s ID ..I got it very recently…but no.. I am not going to vote….why??
I would spare myself the process of screening dogs out of the pigs!! I have other reasons also, but they seem to be in consequential in front of this.

Had we the “none of the above” option in our EVM, which happens to be my constitutional right, I might have gone to vote, but it is not there. So there is no point me going to vote.

  11. It means you got the voters card made only to use it as a photo identity proof like many others… Sahi hai! So technically you are also one of the billion selfish Indians who use things for their own benefits and not for the purpose that they were made or provided with.

Just one question: have you done a research on the people who contesting from your city/constituency?

Can you name them? Or you have this pre-conceived notion that all politicians are labeled in two categories dogs & pigs hence who will bother finding about them. What a waste of time & effort…

  12. I must admit, you are right, I am also part of the same generation and population. (I may be worse of the lot, because I crib about who we are also!! )

But I have many identity proofs and I won’t use the voter ID for it, neither I have looked at the people who are standing in for my constituency. (In that matter, I am also confused about which one actually is my constituency). But, I know, who are the leaders in these political parties and my vote to any one leader, willing or unwillingly end up with those whom I don’t like. Each one may not be a dog or a pig, but each one’s leader is either a dog or a pig!!

I want my voice to be heard when people are deciding the fate of my country. But do the elections my voice is heard?? I say NO. Thats my whole point!!

  13. Finally you get my point!!!

Based on your assumptions which are not backed by facts but a larger picture you have panned all the politicians, categorized leaders as dogs/pigs etc etc… I am not saying they are not but I am so sure some of them are good too…like our present Prime Minster and I am only too proud of him!!!

You don’t know your candidates, forget about that you don’t even know your constituency…then on what basis have you decided that you don’t want to cast your vote- totally your decision of not casting vote, no one will care and no one will ask you about it either…

My point we elect candidates from our constituency who can do work for development of that particular area.. When you don’t vote, some wrong person might win the election- which further will lead to incapable govt in the centre.. What is your contribution to the society? NONE

Can I categorize you as one of the Cribbers, who gives gyan, based on assumptions. I would say some assumptions are true until proven false and some false unless proven true

It would have been more ethical for you to have done your homework and then say whatever you have too…

I hope my perspective is taken in the right spirit!

    Jai Hind!

  14. Well, even though, I don’t know the candidates in my constituency, but I know, if I vote for them.. I am voting for their parties. My point is, I don’t want any one of the major leaders to be the PM of my country. How do I stop that without voting??

  15. my advice-draw up an action plan and post it on your blog..

Do something in that direction first and then the voice, question you raise, will not only be heard but also supported!

You know if someone is shouting the pitch is so high that the voice is not audible- it is just noise!- i hope you get what i am saying here….
