A Book by its Cover!!
Jeans or No Jeans, formals or no formals…the debate is not only about colleges, it is one step forward in corporates. The lunch table talk, on whether the corporate offices should have a dressing code, or what does appropriate dressing mean or for that matter, what is formal and casual dresses and who has placed these terms in the first place??
How does my dressing indicate my quality of work?? Does it also mean that the more beautiful/handsome of the lot are better performers??
Why does everyone preach
“Don’t judge a book by its cover” and then do exactly that!!
What happened to the real stuff of which people are made up of??
Why do we always get cornered by notions of generality, of notions which other people have thought of, and we follow it blindly without giving a thought on to what we actually think.
Why do we always have to play with rules that others have defined. Why can’t, for once, we make our own rules??
What happened to opinions??
Formals, non-formals or casuals, I remember the real purpose of clothes to be only to cover the body!!
PS: I know, there won’t be many with my on this argument, but for once, I have noticed, people who don’t give much thought to their dressing sense actually give more thought to something else, something which matters, and that would be WORK!!
for a change I agree with you! my dressing style doesn’t reflect on my quality of work-If I am comfortable in my clothes I think I can focus more on my work…
Though it does reflect on my personality which may not impress all- but am I hired to impress others or because I am good at my work!
But sure, I can dress to kill to if required!!!
Kid: what brand of jeans do your wear?
@pallavi: the brand that fits me well and at the same time I am comfortable in it!!!
@ Kid: I meant levis etc as in the brand name…you wud have a fav! everyone does- when you know you will always get a best fit
@ Magic: Thanks but I can ask and discuss my own ques…
@Magic: No everyone does not, I don’t. But I do prefer some brands over others…but none in jeans as such.
@Pallavi: I think it should be ok, if Magic also discusses your questions!!
I think if ur work requires meeting people & interacting then one needs to be well dressed in formals e.g. customer care, teaching etc…
But, if your work requires just sitting in front of your computer or files, then whether they are in casuals or formals, it hardly matters. One should be comfortable.
In my view, although brands last longer and have a better finish, they r not what dressing is all about. One can be dressed well even without the Brands.
Whatever the dress style may be, one must be able to do justice to his/her post. I mean, a senior officer should be dressed better than a peon. Dirty and Torn clothes are also a complete NOOOO!!!
If one can follow the above rules, then, in my view, they r well dressed.
